~*~My Crochet Story~*~
I started off as a way to be engaged during the lockdown period. What I discovered was something deep, some kind of energy that connected me to this ancient art.
Research suggests that crochet probably developed most directly from Chinese needlework, a very ancient form of embroidery known in Turkey, India, Persia and North Africa, which reached Europe in the 1700s.
I do not want to delve deeper into the glorious history of crochet but this reminds me of the times when we used to wear hand-knitted winter garments. Our grandmothers, mothers and aunts were mostly seen with a pair of hooks and a bundle of yarn chit-chatting away during the lazy afternoons creating sweaters, socks, caps, etc. Neighbourhood gossips and knitting went hand-in-hand while the former may not be accurate but the latter was always perfect!
Have you ever felt some kind of a connection when you wear something made by your dear one? Probably a sweater knitted by your mother? The thing you feel is the energy of the person who is crafting that piece keeping you in mind. Sometimes, also measuring the half-completed work with your size to see the progress. This experience can never be replicated by wearing something made by a machine. Of course, if only machines had feelings...
